100 strips.

Well, I've managed 100 strips now. I'm pretty impressed with myself managing to stick with it, and I'm thrilled that people actually read the comic. I thought about doing a '100th comic' comic strip for about a tenth of a second. Then I remembered how much I dislike 'milestone' strips in the other comics I read and came to my senses. Having just redrawn the first few strips I realize that the look of the comic has come along quite nicely, and I also think I'm writing a little more clearly now. Anyway, here's hoping the next 100 strips show even more improvement in writing and drawing.

So, the tallies are up. 22 fan mails for May. Holy crap! My fans rule! I know from talking to other artists you usually don't get this amount of fanmail for the number of readers I have. (I'm still really small time compared to other comics. Only about 1400 readers or something like that.)

Strangely most of it is nice mail! There was only one message from a guy who said that my humor is "too easy" because I'm mocking conservatives and religion, things that many 20 somethings feel is worth mocking these days.

Well, at least I'm not doing a sprite gamer comic, yes?

Anyway, I really like the redrawn first two strips, so hopefully I'll get the third and final redraw done. Then I'll toss the old ones onto a seperate page.

Now... I need to resist the urge to KEEP redrawing the old strips to make them better! I could slowly work my way though the whole buffer! Of course, I'd probably think the first strips were bad ALL OVER AGAIN and then have to start over redrawing. I'd become the proverbial snake eating it's tail. So I won't redraw any more of them after this. I swear. No really.

So when I started Filthy Lies, I was trying to draw everything on the computer to save the trouble of getting a scanner set up and I already had a tablet. I started drawing them in Adobe Photoshop, but almost immediately changed to Flash for drawing. Now I'm going back and redoing those original 3 strips.

What really triggered this was the fact that the second strip is the strip that most frequently gets linked in blogs and in newsgroups. Apparently I have been going downhill since then. I guess I peaked early.

Anyway, since that seems to be the most popular strip, I thought maybe I should redo it for color and snazziness, and since I was redoing that one, I figured I'd redo all three.

The first is already up here and I'll post when the others go up.

I really like the newer look, especially seeing it next to the old one.

Also... that old font?
So I figured today might actually generate a hate-mail or two. Tragically, no love. Normally I figure that the people who read my comic are pretty much a bunch of irreverant yokels like myself, so I don't figure I'll get anybody complaining.

But I figured mocking the death of a 13 year old girl at a hockey match in today's strip just might do the trick.

This was a little over two years ago, so I'm sure the comment went over most people's heads. So I have held off on getting a RSS feed set up for now. However, the new website is up. Is it nice? Yes? No? I should put a link to this LJ there, but it might be kind of superfluous given that I now have a rant section underneith each comic that lets me talk about the comic there.

However, it doesn't have the fun post/reply thingee that LJ has, huh?
